CLOVIS – This past Saturday, May 24, high school track and field programs from across the Central Valley gathered at Buchanan High School to compete in the CIF Central Section Masters Championships. Against the best of the best in the Valley, several local athletes performed well to make their schools proud.
For Immanuel High School, Alexandra Schartmann took second in the 400-meter sprint with a time of 55.61 seconds. She also finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 24.64 seconds. And from Reedley, A’Aliyah Matlock took seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45 seconds and Lettie Walker finished seventh in the discus with a distance of 119 feet and 6 inches.
In the boys meet, Immanuel’s Micah Vossler performed well as he tied for sixth in the long jump and took seventh in the triple jump. He recorded a distance of 22 feet and 2.5 inches in the long jump and he posted a measurement of 43 feet and 9.25 inches in the triple jump. In the 3,200, Reedley’s Mauricio Herrera finished sixth with a time of 9:25.09 and Sanger’s Sawyer Pugliese took seventh with a time of 9:26.41.
Schartmann will next compete in the CIF State Championships, which starts this Friday at Buchanan High School.
