FRESNO COUNTY – With the scorecard officially filled out on the 2025 season in the West Yosemite League (WYL), the Dinuba Emperors were well-represented in All-League baseball honors for their spectacular play.
And despite a season that didn’t exactly measure up to Dinuba’s standards, the four selected players managed to elevate their play to stand out among a crowd of other talented players in the WYL. Dinuba finished 6-21 overall, and 4-12 in the WYL; but seniors Anthony Pompa and Matthew Guido went out on top in their final seasons.
The WYL recently awarded Pompa and Guido 1st Team All-League Honors for their inspirational play with the Emperors and in the WYL this season. Pompa provided steady play in several games this season for Dinuba. Back on May 9, Pompa delivered his best offensive game, going 2-4 and driving in 2 runs in a 12-2 beatdown of Tulare Union.
Guido, the two sport football and baseball star, spent his final season tearing the leather off the ball, batting an impressive .462 in just seven games. Guido made the most of his at-bats, scoring 7 runs and collecting 121 hits. And when Guido got on base, he didn’t stay there long, swiping 5 bases. Guido ended his Emperors career with a .306 batting average, 71 hits and 19 Runs Batted In (RBIs) in 91 total games played.
Pompa and Guido’s play this season also earned them roster spots on the Fresno County team in the 2025 City/County All-Star Game, which was held on June 8 at Chukchansi Park in Fresno.
And Guido’s impressive senior season on both the diamond and the gridiron also garnered him Dinuba High’s prestigious 2024-25 Male Athlete of the Year.
Fellow teammates, senior Derek Hernandez, and sophomore Ethyn Lizaola, also did their best to help give the Emperors a few more wins this season. And because of their valued play, Hernandez and Lizaola were awarded 2nd Team All-League honors.
In his final season, Hernandez batted a solid .312 on 5 hits in 16 at-bats. And like Guido, he flashed quickness on the basepaths, swiping 4 bases.
Lizaola emerged to turn a few heads with short bursts of his future potential with the Emperors. He batted a respectable .250 in just nine plate appearances. Defensively, Lizaola flashed the leather, finishing this season with a .857 Fielding Percentage (FP), committing just 1 error in the field.
