FRESNO COUNTY – With a brand new volleyball season almost ready to tip off, a few teams in the Tri-County-Sequoia will be aiming for a little redemption and better play. One of these teams, the Selma Varsity Girls, could emerge from disappointment to stand tall and proud this season.
The Bears struggled to a 10-19 finish in 2024. But their 0-8 record in TCSL play marked another stay at the bottom of the league. As Selma gets ready for their 2025 season, a more experienced core of players will be counted on to help break out of what has felt like an eternal slumber.
Seniors Mia Duran, Emma Galaviz and Mariah Flores could be the veteran leaders the Bears need to finally break out in league play this season. According to Max Preps, all three players are team captains, so their leadership and skills will be greatly needed to help get Selma back on the winning track.
With eight total seniors on this season’s squad, head coach Kelsey Lopez will be relying on her veterans to learn from the losses, and translate them into victories. While nothing is guaranteed, Selma should be a team to keep an eye on in the TCSC this season.
Washington Union (25-13/7-1) returns as league champs. The Panthers’ amazing season took them to the Central Section D IV Playoffs, where Bishop Union tamed them, 3-1 in the opening round. With seven departing seniors from that team, Washington Union could find a repeat league title to be a little difficult.
As for Kerman, a return to the top of the league is still possible. The Lions are ready to roar with a veteran playoff core returning from 2024. Sierra Pacific will be in a season of transition due to the loss of several players. And despite finishing 3-5 in league play, Hanford West will attempt to build on an overall season that saw them advance to the Central Section D IV Playoffs.
