SANGER – An empowering day for women’s sports took center stage with tremendous feats of strength and muscle as a first of its kind event shook the streets of downtown Sanger.
The Peaches & Queens Gym hosted 15 fierce female powerlifters in a display of Herculean efforts at the first ever, all-women’s powerlifting meet at 7th and N streets in downtown Sanger on Oct. 18. With members of the Fresno State Powerlifting team on hand to help set up and officiate, event attendees witnessed the beauty and amazement of competitive women’s powerlifting.
According to the Sanger Live Facebook page, Peaches & Queens owner Vanessa Ramirez and manager Daniela Rivera organized the sanctioned event to show that the ladies can really flex their muscles. These extraordinary athletes rocked the bars and grunted their way towards victory in their respective competitions.
Each competitor had three chances to dominate in the squat, deadlift and bench press competitions. According to results from liftingcast.com, Team Catalyst had a few impressive warriors show their might on the bench.
In the Women’s Raw Junior 52, Sarena Rodriguez finished first with a total of 195. Juliet Garza dominated the Women’s Raw Open 57 with a final score of 252.5. And Marissa Castillo and Janessa Gutierrez finished in the top two in the Women’s Raw Open 69 with totals of 247.5 and 235.
